Donna Haraway

Donna Haraway, born in 1944 in Colorado, United States, is a prominent feminist theorist and philosopher of science. Her work has focused on the intersection of science, technology, feminism, and cultural theory, and has had a significant impact on gender studies and critical theory.

The essay Cyborg Manifesto, published in 1985, introduced the concept of the “cyborg” as a figure that challenges traditional categories of gender, race, and humanity. The work rebels against binary dichotomies, such as male/female, human/machine, and nature/culture. It also embraces diversity and hybridization. Her vision has had a profound impact on feminist debates and posthumanist theory.

Haraway has also extensively written about the impact of biotechnology and the ethical and political issues it raises.
