More open than ever
The Center for Digital and Democratic Innovation is a unique space in Barcelona: a new and experimental athenaeum-laboratory opened to the neighborhood, the city and the world. An intersection of digital culture, open-source technologies, digital rights, and democratic participation. Through this confluence, it delves into a wide range of topics, such as feminisms, human rights, social justice, diversity, the urban model or sustainability.
Its challenge is to bring digital culture and democratic innovation closer to the nearby territory and at the same time be a meeting place for grassroots organizations, social projects, research centers, and citizens, who decide in a participatory way what Canòdrom is.
Technology for everybody in the terraces
In spaces as emblematic such as the terraces or the square where greyhounds ran and competed years ago, now you will find the Open Canòdrom, a program of wide-range activities that sheds light on the challenges of technology and the networked society. Enjoy debates and talks, musical sessions, film screenings, conferences on video games, exhibitions of local projects and more with family or friends.
As a space for learning and being able to freely access technology, you can also connect to Canòdrom’s Wi-Fi network, as well as plug in the sockets located in the terraces, or join the various workshops and digital training courses. There are available from basic knowledge courses, to more specific and cutting-edge workshops, in which you will learn tools to combat fake news or even self-defense techniques to combat trolls on the net.
Opening Canòdrom also means learning about its past. With the project for the revival of the historical memory of the space, we listen to the voices of neighbors, bring back memories, experiences and anecdotes to include them into the collective history of Canòdrom. We do it jointly and in common with the neighborhood, while we learn how to revive their memories of the neighborhood through digital tools.
Canòdrom wants to be the benchmark public space in Barcelona in terms of democratic innovation, citizen participation, and digital culture. For this reason, there are cutting-edge projects in residence, a support program for researchers, and also we advise neighbors and grassroots organizations that want to implement digital tools in their projects.
Canòdrom is more open than ever: come and discover it and make it yours.
