Community Sound Creation Workshop

Taller creació sonora
Thu, 08/05/2025 de 18:00 a 20:00

BitLab, in collaboration with XRCB, is organizing a workshop on May 8, 2025, at Canòdrom focused on community sound creation. This workshop offers a practical and creative introduction to sound creation as a tool for community communication and expression. Using techniques from sound design for visual media (such as in film), we will work on constructing sound narratives capable of telling stories without the need for visual elements.

During the workshop:

  • We will explore different open sound archives such as Freesound.
  • We will learn how to design sound stories, record voice-overs, and edit audio using Audacity.
  • We will explore the potential of soundscapes as a narrative and expressive medium.

Through this sound-based experience, participants will gain awareness of the narrative and symbolic nature of sound in our environment, and how it can become a powerful tool to represent, interpret, and transform reality from within communities.

The workshop will conclude with a space for collective reflection on the meaning of sound in the construction of our cultural and social identity, and how we can use it to create transformative community sound pieces.

Materials:

– Bring your own laptop

Objectives:

  • To explore the creation of sound narratives to accompany archival images, with the aim of telling possible stories through sound.
  • To propose sound narrative as a sound design exercise for images, inspired by cinematic language, in order to recreate spaces, actions, and atmospheres that help build a story (storytelling).
  • To reflect on the primacy of vision in how we interpret the world and highlight listening as a tool for critical and reflective interaction with our surroundings.
  • To discover and experiment with the expressive and artistic qualities of sound, in order to develop creativity through the tools of sound language, while building bridges with visual language.
