From January 27 to April 30, 2025, the Canòdrom will host an exhibition that will not leave you indifferent: «Gaza Remains the Story». An invitation to discover the life, culture, and struggle of the Palestinian people through the art, history, and collective memory of Gaza. As part of the opening, a talk will be held on the role of major tech corporations in conflicts like the Palestinian one.
This exhibition, organized by The Palestinian Museum, delves into the deep roots of this land, marked by war but also by an unyielding strength and creativity. The exhibition is not just a historical narration; it is a cry of resistance. Through texts, drawings, and audiovisual materials, «Gaza Remains the Story» allows us to understand the true essence of a people who, despite adversity, continue to fight to preserve their identity and culture.
Gaza is not just a place devastated by war; it is also a land that pulses with vibrant life, dreams, arts, and creative projects that flourish despite everything. The exhibition seeks to break down the walls of misinformation and offer an honest, profound, and intimate view of Gaza. It is an act of memory and protest that reminds us that, at the heart of Palestine, history is not forgotten but endures in every act of resistance.
The role of technology in Gaza
Technology has played a paradoxical role in Gaza: while major technological platforms have opened windows to the outside world, allowing Gaza’s voice to reach further, they have also been used to perpetuate control and repression.
According to recent data, Gaza is one of the most surveilled territories in the world, with facial recognition technology, mobile phone tracking systems, and armed drones operating daily in the skies above the strip.
These systems not only enable strict control over the population but also limit their access to external information and resources, often censoring or manipulating digital channels that could provide help and support. Through this exhibition, the aim is to reflect on how these technological innovations, which could serve connectivity and empowerment, have also become tools of dehumanization.
This dual nature of technology is a crucial point to understand in order to fully appreciate the complexity of the situation in Gaza, while also raising questions about the ethical role of major technological corporations in conflict contexts. Inaugural Talk: When ‘Big Tech’ goes to war
What technologies are used to control territories, displace communities, and perpetuate wars? How do these companies influence the Palestinian conflict and other similar situations? To accompany the opening of this special exhibition, the Canòdrom is organizing an inaugural roundtable titled «When Big Tech goes to war». This talk will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM, and will be an opportunity to reflect on the role of major tech corporations in this particular conflict as well as in global conflicts.
With contributions from expert voices such as Judith Membrives i Llorens, digitization technician at LaFede.cat, Alys Samson Estapé, feminist and anti-racist activist and member of BDS Catalunya, Carol Romero, technologist and activist at Tecnosandías, and Gador Luque, architect and designer specializing in architectural technology, this roundtable invites us to look beyond the headlines and question the invisible mechanisms that help perpetuate conflicts. Admission to the talk is free and no prior registration is required.
