The 2024 Biennial of Thought arrives at the Canòdrom

On October 10 and 11, the Canòdrom will host the 2024 Biennial of Thought, which will fill the city with debate and reflection. Over a hundred experts in topics such as democracy, memory, postcolonialism, feminism, and technological and climate transformations will invite citizens to reflect on the challenges of the present and future. The Biennial will take place from October 8 to 13, featuring around sixty activities across various venues.

Under the slogan “The day after everything”, the fourth edition of the Biennial of Thought invites us to reflect on the changes we urgently need. In a world where sustainability, social justice, and the fight against inequality are more important than ever, this Biennial encourages us to question the principles and dynamics that have shaped the past and imagine a better future. What ideas and practices should be at the center of this new horizon?

With a program full of ideas and debate, the Biennial will feature 120 speakers and 65 activities, 11 of which will be part of the Biennial+ program. Prominent voices such as Herta Müller, Zadie Smith, Perejaume, Wajdi Mouawad, and many more, will inspire and help us think about the global transformations we are experiencing.

The debates will take place in emblematic venues such as the CCCB, Can Felipa, the Canòdrom, La Model, and various plazas and gardens throughout the city. The aim is to bring dialogue to all corners of Barcelona and ensure everyone can participate in the conversations. Additionally, the Biennial is being held in a special year, as Barcelona is the European Capital of Democracy.

The Biennial at the Canòdrom

On Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11, from 6:00 PM to 8:45 PM, the Open Stands at the Canòdrom will host debates you cannot miss, curated by the European Capital of Democracy in Barcelona.

We will discuss water governance, an increasingly urgent topic; remember the anarchist tradition of Barcelona; analyze the need to defend democracy in times of uncertainty; and highlight the power of social movements that drive our city.

The curatorship of the fourth edition of the Biennial of Thought is made up of Xavier Fina, Mar Rosàs, Raül Garrigasait, the CCCB, and the team of the European Capital of Democracy. All program activities are free and no prior registration is required. You can find all the details of the activities on the Capital website.
