The Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation is organizing the event “Citizen Assembly: Challenges and Potential of a New Framework for Democratic Participation” on November 21 from 10:00 to 11:30 am, where the main results of the research conducted during 2024 will be presented.
In recent years, the debate on the influence of citizens in decision-making processes has intensified. In this context, citizen assemblies are positioned as a space for deliberation and non-expert decision-making, composed of a group of people chosen by lottery. The main contribution of the citizen assembly lies in its ability to propose a new model of representation, with the direct involvement of citizens in the deliberation and decision-making process.
The research conducted by the Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation offers a forward-looking perspective on citizen assemblies, aiming to generate reflections and guidance for the improvement of these deliberative spaces. This analysis seeks to be useful for the driving agents of assemblies by providing methodological criteria for their development, as well as serving as a tool for citizen advocacy.
The event aims to be a space for disseminating the main research findings among the driving agents of citizen assemblies, such as public administrations, third sector organizations, and social movements, as well as citizens and organized civil society. Limited places available.
